A Simple Plan

SEASON/SPOILERS: Season 10 “Dominion” and a little reference back to “Counterstrike”
WARNINGS: None
AUTHOR’S NOTES: So I found this on my computer. I wrote it before “Dominion” aired but I think it is actually still very relevant to the events that actually took place in the episode. It’s basically the meeting where the team discusses Vala’s plan to use herself as bait to capture Adria, and Daniel’s resistance to it.

“Absolutely not,” Daniel declared staunchly.
“Daniel, I won’t be in any real danger. For all of Adria’s threats, she won’t hurt me. She still thinks she can convert me to the will of the Ori,” she said, trying to soothe his fears over her plan.
“Maybe she’s changed her mind,” he added. “I doubt she’s forgotten that we’ve
destroyed her Gods. There’s no telling how she’ll react to you now.”
“Dr. Jackson has a good point. Right now, we have no idea how Adria will react
to our presence,” Landry pointed out.
“That’ll make her even more determined to lure me to the darkside,” she said as
she winked at Teal’c. She could hear Daniel audibly groan, so she continued.
“She’s alone now, having to lead this army without the help or guidance of the
Ori. She wants an ally, someone she can trust. Who better than her own mother?
She’ll be so desperate she’ll practically welcome my help.”
“And what if you’re wrong?” Daniel asked.
“I’m never wrong Daniel, you should know that by now,” she replied coyly.
“I can’t believe that I’m going to say this, but I agree with Vala,” Mitchell
said, to Daniel’s annoyance. “This may be one of our last shots as shuttin’
down Adria…and Vala is the only person in either
galaxy that she has any kind of connection with.”
Daniel pursed his lips in concern.
Vala interrupted his thoughts, “Daniel, honestly, I can handle Adria. She may
be a super-powered zealout intent on dominating everything and everyone in this
galaxy, but I am her mother.” She
paused, and smiled ruefully. “Maybe this is my crucial moment to reach her in a
way that nobody else can.”
Daniel looked over at her, remembering their conversation aboard The Odyssey after believing Adria had
died….for the first time. He knew
better than anyone else that her last statement held more meaning and
importance to her than she was letting on. She’d struggled with the role she
had played in bringing Adria into the world, always secretly hoping that there
was something between her and her daughter that fell outside of Ori
jurisdiction.
Hoping that Vala was right, Daniel reluctantly conceded. “If we do this, we
need to take every precaution
possible. I know firsthand that Adria shouldn’t be underestimated under any
circumstances. She can read people and situations and if she even suspects an
ambush there’s no telling what she might do.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got it all planned out,” Vala said assuredly.
“We should still come up with a backup plan in case things go badly,” Sam
interjected. “I’ve been working on using the cloaking device to shield The Odyssey, the way Daniel…um…Merlin
did at the Supergate.”
“Will you have it ready by the time this plan goes into action?” Landry asked.
“I should,” Sam said with some uncertainty.
“Make sure that you do,” the general warned. “The last thing we need to do is
agitate an already angry Orici. I don’t want any mistakes that might cost
lives,” he said, looking directly at Vala.
Landry’s exit signaled the end of the meeting and everyone vacated their chairs
and headed off to perform their necessary preparations. As Vala made her
way to the door, Daniel grabbed her arm.
“Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” He asked, his voice thick with
concern.
“No. Then again I never do. It’s part of my roguish charm,” she replied
flippantly.
After staring at her for longer than she was comfortable with, Vala finally
conceded.
“What do you want me to do, Daniel? Yes, the Ori are destroyed but Adria is
still out there, and as long as that is the case none of us are safe. I’m the
only person who has a shot with her. Come to think of it I’m probably the only
person she won’t kill on sight.”
“We don’t know that,” Daniel sighed.
“Regardless, we have to take the risk. I have to take the risk,” she
emphasized. “Come on Daniel, we both know that Adria is the key to ending all
of this. Am I really supposed to sit back and do nothing as she murders
thousands of people who refuse to follow Origin simply because it’s dangerous?”
She asked in all earnestness.
The fear and worry in his eyes was evident. “It’s the stopping her that worries
me. Are you sure that when,” he paused before continuing, “If it comes to it, you can….” he trailed off.
“Can what? Kill my own child?” She paused briefly as she thought it over. And
suddenly a bone-weariness Daniel hadn’t seen before crept into her eyes. “She
was never mine to begin with.”
There was a long, deep pause as both of them processed those words. “Besides,”
she added, “I brought her into this world, I suppose it’s only fitting that I
take her out of it.” With a small smile, she turned to leave.
“There’s still a part of you that thinks you can save her, isn’t there?” he
asked, already sure of the answer.
“I’m a realist, Daniel. I know what Adria is,” she said. With that she walked
out the door, leaving an entirely unconvinced and an even more worried Daniel
Jackson behind.
