I thought I left the light on. Daniel flipped the switch in his office. There was a second of confusion, followed by a tilt of his head – first at the object, then down, then behind him, then back forward. His mouth opened. Then closed. His glasses came off, then went back on.

He crossed his arms and hung his head. Turning, he left the room.

He would not overreact. No matter what. She was not going to get any reaction at all. No way. Just a simple request to get it out of his office.

After returning to the commissary where he’d left her and finding her gone, he’d searched the usual places. Sam’s lab, Bill Lee’s office, the gym, Cam’s office, and finally he stood in front of her quarters. With one knuckle, he gently rapped on her door.

“Daniel!”

“Just get it out of there…please.”

Vala turned behind her for a look and back to Daniel. “What?”

“I’m serious. Get it out of my office. Now.”

He had that petulant look she hated. “I have no idea what you are talking about. And by the way, I hate that look!” She slammed the door in his face.

“Vala! Open the door!”

“Why?” She said as she opened the door. “Obviously you are in one of your moods, you’ve dreamed up something to be mad at me for. Fine. Go away.” Once again the door swung to close.

Daniel grabbed the door and shoved it open. “Look, I don’t want to fight. Really. I just want it out of my office.” He wandered into her room while she remained at the door.

“Daniel, really, what? What do you want out of your office? Did I leave a hair clip in there? A shoe? My jacket?”

Balling his fists to control his temper, he looked her in the eye. “That…that thing! Just get it out of there. I’m sure you thought it a big joke. But I have to work in there.”

“You’re wonko, you know that. What ‘thing’? What are you talking about?” She moved closer to him.

“Alright, maybe you were just bored and wanted to get a laugh. But you knew I wouldn’t find it funny. What were you thinking? How the hell did you get it?”

“Show me.”

“Show you what?”

“The thing!

“Pffft! Fine!”

They continued the light argument back and forth as they wandered towards Daniel’s office.

Vala stopped in the door frame and face screwed up between a quizzical frown and half smile she whispered, “Wherever did you get it?” The frown disappeared and she laughed out loud. “Did you get it for me? Is that it? Oh Daniel, you are so sweet!” She hugged him, kissing his cheek.

“You’re serious. You didn’t put it in here, did you?

“Why in the stars would I put something like that in your office? I can’t even pick it up. You didn’t put it here – for me?”

“Noooo.”

“Oh.” Disappointed, she looked at him.

“Dr J?” An airman called out walking up behind where Daniel and Vala still stood in the doorway.

“Yeah.”

“I delivered that thing to your office for Ms Mal Doran, SG3 brought it back. Reynolds said some guy sent it to her…some old obsolete reactor coil.”

“What!” The couple blurted out in unison.

After inspecting the coil, and realizing it was too late to do anything about it tonight, they left the office headed towards Vala’s quarters.

“Sorry.” Daniel mumbled.

“Really?” She nudged his arm with her shoulder.

“Yep.” He tugged at her hand and turned around heading towards the elevators, “let’s go.”

“Where, darling, where are we going?”

“My place, I just got two new feather pillows.”

“Really?”

“Yep.”

“One for me?”

“Yep.”
