“Will you please just leave me alone?”

“Daniel, I’m hurt. You’re not tired of me already, are you?”

Daniel’s eyes rolled heavenward. Teal’c had assured him, on several occasions, that if he killed Vala, he would die, too. Much more of this, and he would risk it. Stuck here on base for three weeks now. Bound to this wack job by a couple of Jaffa marriage bracelets, he was not, despite Vala’s flirting, going down that path, thank you very much. Not with someone he barely knew, wasn’t entirely sure he liked and don’t even mention the word trust.

“I was tired of you five minutes after we met.”

Vala pranced around behind him as he tried to work, trailing her long fingers through his hair. “You lie terribly, Daniel. I just love that about you.”

“And you lie well. And keep your damn hands off me.” He tried to shrug her away. “Just leave me alone.”

“But, Daniel, you know I can’t. You don’t want to faint again, do you?”

“I didn’t faint, I passed out. And if being unconscious relieves me of having to put up with you...will you please take your hands off me?” He jumped up from his chair as she tried to slide her arms around his neck. She simply hung on as he tried to shrug her off.

“You know I can’t leave you alone. It might kill us.” She sighed dramatically, holding on as he practically drug her across the room. He echoed her sigh as he poured himself a cup of coffee and sought the relief of aspirin for his headache.  Walking back to his desk entailed putting up with her hands clenched in his shirt. He thought about shrugging out of it, but was hampered by the coffee cup.

He tried again. “Vala, I have work I need to do. Could you please be a good girl and give me some space?”

“Okay,” she boosted herself up on the corner of his desk and crossed those never-ending legs. Her self-enforced silence lasted mere seconds. “So, what’s that?”

“It’s an artifact.”

“Looks like a piece of rock.”

“It’s a very old piece of rock.”

“How exciting.” Another few seconds of silence. “Daniel, when are we getting out of here?”

“Told you, I’m not taking you off this base. No, we’re not going to my house. No, we’re not going shopping. No to everything.”

She leaned in closer, her hair brushing his cheek. “Everything?”

“Everything. Not interested.”

The smile on her face could only be described as feral as she glanced down. “Oh, I wouldn’t say that.”

Daniel forced himself not to cover the evidence of his lie. “In case you hadn’t noticed, Vala, I am a man.”

“Oh, I definitely noticed.”

He went on as if she hadn’t spoken. “And as a man, I’m just as susceptible as the next guy to…excitement.”

“Daniel, I excite you? How flattering.”

“I don’t think there’s a guy on this base you haven’t excited.” Daniel shrugged. “Except maybe Sgt. Cobb.”

She pouted. “What’s wrong with him?”

“Nothing, it’s just that he prefers..” Daniel stopped himself in time.

“Prefers?” The flood of color on his face fascinated Vala. “Men? He prefers men? How odd. Any specific man?” His face grew even redder, if that were possible. Vala tossed her hair back and laughed out loud. “You? He prefers you? Hmm, can’t say that I blame him, there. You are very attractive, Daniel Jackson.” She took pity on him, although that look on his face was simply priceless. “I can take care of him for you.”

“I’m not ordering a hit on the guy because he likes my ass.”

“Hmm, I like your ass, too. But I’m not talking about hitting him, or whatever. No, I have a better solution to your problem.”

“Yeah, like what?” Daniel was still studying his artifact, hardly believing he was actively participating in this conversation.

“We could have sex.”

“I believed you’ve suggested that on a number of occasions.”

“And you’ve turned me down every single time. Really, Daniel, you don’t know what you’re missing.”

Daniel smiled pseudo-sweetly, “not true, seen you naked.”

Vala frowned, reluctant to acknowledge the hit. “If we have sex, this Cobb will know you like women, and he’ll leave you alone. We could do it right here. I wonder if we could record it and...”

“No! No to the sex, no to the taping it. And hell no, to the passing out a copy!”

“I wasn’t going to give the copies away.” He looked up at her in shock. “A girl has to make a living some way.” Not to mention all the fun she was having tormenting Daniel.

He jumped up. “Come on.”

She slithered off his desk. “Where are we going?”

“Bathroom.” He shook his head. “Get that look off your face. I’ve told you, you’re not coming in with me.”

“Spoilsport.”

Daniel was holding his head in his hands, yet again. How, how did he let them talk him into this? But his presence was required in Washington; he simply had to be there. So now here he was, several thousand feet in the air. With Vala wandering the lounge of the Air Force plane Jack had sent for them. At least, he hadn’t had to take her on a commercial flight. He didn’t even want to imagine that nightmare. Taking her shopping for clothes had been bad enough.

She flopped down beside him. “Daniel, have you ever?”

He interpreted the predatory gleam in her eyes. “No.”

“Pity.” She glanced back at the sleeping quarters she had just investigated.

Major Paul Davis met the plane; Daniel at least didn’t have to explain to him what had happened. “Miss Maldoran.”

“It’s Vala,” she shook his hand and gifted him with a huge smile. “I wish I’d come here sooner. Are all the men here so attractive, Daniel?”

“Haven’t a clue. Come on.”

“General O’Neill said he’d meet you at his house. He’s running a little behind, but he will be there shortly.” They all piled in the limo; Daniel grabbed Vala’s hand to keep her from trying out all the controls.

“No.”

“Daniel, do you ever loosen up?”

“That would be no, also.”

The first thing Daniel did when they arrived at Jack’s was dive into his medicine cabinet for some sort of painkiller. He had developed a fairly persistent headache over the past month or so. Swallowing three Tylenol, he wondered if medical science could work on a Vala-vaccine. He’d volunteer for the test trials. Jerking off his tie, he stopped in the guestroom he used and threw it and his jacket on the bed. A bed which looked mighty inviting. But he wasn’t about to lie down; he was liable to wake up with Vala plastered all over him. Wishing he’d taken even more pills, he slowly walked down the stairs.

“What are you doing?”

Vala had evidently already discovered the liquor cabinet. “Can I get you something?”

“Better not. Haven’t eaten yet.”

“I thought you were going to get something before we left Colorado?”

He collapsed on the sofa. “No time.”

“Daniel, you’ll make yourself sick if you keep this up. You have to eat. Do you think your Jack would mind if I peeked in the kitchen?”

“Knock yourself out.” Daniel had stuffed cushions behind his head and kicked his shoes off.

Vala found a tray of cheese and crackers already prepared. And a note addressed to Daniel. Waving the note about, she seriously thought about reading it, but talked herself out of it. Taking a bottle of water out of the refrigerator, she carried it and the tray back to the den. Daniel was in the same spot where she had left him. “Daniel?” She whispered.

“What?” He whispered back.

“I thought you were asleep.”

“Seriously thinking about it.”

“Well, think about it later, sit up and eat something.”

He thought about that, too. “No, think I’ll just stay right here.” She set his bottle of water down and slid her cool hand over his aching head. He shuddered. “God, that feels good.”

“Either sit up and eat or I’ll feed you. And your Jack left you a note.”

“Sitting up now.” He did so, but very slowly, wincing.

“Headache?” She perched on the coffee table.

“Yeah,” he took the note, read it and shook his head with a grin.

“Here,” she handed him the tray. “Eat. Or I’ll tell your Jack.”

“Okay, first he’s not my Jack.”

“Says who?” They both turned at the voice at the door.

Vala rose, presented her hand. “You must be Daniel’s Jack.”

“I must be. And you must be Daniel’s Vala.”

“Yes, I am Vala. Daniel’s wife.”

“Must you introduce yourself that way?”

“Well, technically we are bound by these bracelets and they are marriage bracelets. And we haven’t been apart from each other in weeks. So we must be married. Although, I have to tell you, Jack,” Vala turned wicked eyes back to her favorite prey, “Daniel hasn’t been acting very husband like. I’m quite disappointed in him. He works far too hard, doesn’t take any time for me, and professes to have a constant headache especially when I mention sex.”

“I do have a constant headache. And I’m looking at her.” Daniel swallowed a mouthful of crackers. “You look good, Jack.”

“Wish I could say the same, Daniel, you look like shit. Married life not agreeing with you?” The doorbell rang; Daniel winced before he could stop himself. “Dinner, I believe.”

Jack and Vala both noticed Daniel ate very little. Spoke very little. Vala realized with a pang of conscience the headache had joked about was all too real.

“Jack, how many feet would you say it is from here to the guestroom?”

Jack frowned. “I don’t know, couple of hundred.”

“Hmm, pity. Looks like you’re stuck here, Daniel.” She turned back to Jack. “We’ve found if we exceed 75 feet in distance, poor Daniel faints.”

“Poor Daniel doesn’t faint, he passes out. And he’s not the only one.”

“Was he always this snippy?”

“Oh, yeah, snippy was his middle name.”

Daniel rose, grabbing his water. “Jack? Bite me.” He left them in the kitchen and headed back to the den. He almost wished it were more than 75 feet. Passing out would be a welcome relief at this point. Laying his glasses on the coffee table, he resumed his position on the couch. It wasn’t long before he felt a cool, wet cloth on his forehead. His sigh was one of pure pleasure. “Thank you, whoever you are.”  He felt the long, smooth fingers spend a little more time than necessary on his face. “Vala.”

“Of course, Daniel dear. You were expecting Jack? Tsk, tsk, have you two been naughty boys?”
“Every chance we get.” He opened his eyes to the stunned silence. Vala’s expression elicited a slight smile. He lay back and closed his eyes again. “Gotcha.”

Two days later they were on their way back to Colorado. Daniel, with an always-eager Vala in tow, had made the rounds of the Pentagon. Had given mind-numbing (Jack’s interpretation) briefings about the defeat of the Goa’uld and the replicators. Had his hand shaken and his back slapped by more politicians than he ever cared to see in one place ever again. Receiving the congratulations of the Joint Chiefs had been poignant. They had understood, better than anyone else in DC had had what this victory had meant and had cost along the way had.

Although Daniel suggested postponing their dinner, the President insisted. Daniel wasn’t sure who was more stunned, he or the President. The First Lady had taken Vala in stride; Daniel’s admiration for her only increased. “Thank you, Dr. Jackson, it’s always a pleasure to see you.” She kissed his cheek with a smile as Jack made faces behind her back. “You’ll be sure to let me know the minute I can put this in my memoirs.” And she already had a photograph to document her dinner with an alien.

“Daniel?” Vala’s voice brought him back to the present.

“Yes.” The truth was that Daniel had grown quite accustomed to having Vala with him. A fact that he wouldn’t admit on pain of death. And despite his best efforts, he had developed a grudging affection for her. He surmised that she had come up hard and had done whatever it took to survive. In a way, they had that in common.

He wasn’t at all surprised when she curled up in the seat beside him and began stroking his fingers. “You have the most beautiful hands, Daniel, did you know that?” He tried to pull those hands away from her, but she held on. “Those people in Washington?”

“Which ones?”

“The ones in the uniforms? And your president? They said you saved the world. Your world.”

“I…had a hand in it. But I didn’t do it alone.”

She turned so that she was facing him. “You’re a hero, Daniel!”

“No, no, I’m no hero. I’m just doing what I can.” She slithered across until she was draped across his lap. He let her lift his hands and place them around her waist. She settled her head on his shoulder and snuggled closer. With a sigh, he tightened his grip on her, just let himself feel her warmth.  How long had it been, he thought, since he had allowed himself to quit thinking and simply feel?

“Daniel?” She whispered into his neck.

“Yes?” He stroked her hair back from her face.

She raised up and looked at him. And found herself staring into those mesmerizing blue eyes. His long, gentle fingers were caressing her cheek, sliding under her hair to the nape of her neck, pulling her to him. She closed her eyes as his lips met hers. Her mind reeled from the gentleness, the tenderness. She tried to set the pace, tried to speed things up, to satisfy her urges. But Daniel was having none of it. He simply refused to let her have her way. His slow exploration of her mouth set off all sorts of alarms in her head. Unused to being led, she fought to gain the upper hand. And lost.

He reluctantly drew away from her. “My rules.”

Her brow furrowed in frustration. “No.”

“Okay,” he shoved her off into the other seat and stood up. “See you in Colorado.”

“Daniel?” She could see he was as aroused as she was and tried her old tactics. She smiled wickedly. “I know you want me.”

“Yes, I do. And you want me. But it’s my way or no way.” He shocked her by crossing over and pulling her up and into his arms. And kissing her thoroughly.

She draped her arms around his neck. “I must admit, your way is quite persuasive.”

“Have you ever heard the term ‘mile-high club’?”

Vala admitted to being stunned a few times after sex. Just a few, though, because she was usually the stunner, not the stunnee. Was that even a word, she thought? The man was causing her to invent words that didn’t even exist! She slid even closer to the now sleeping Daniel and let her mind wander. She really had to admit his way was pretty mind-blowing. She had wanted it hard and fast and Daniel simply wouldn’t.  He had destroyed her defenses with his insanely slow and meticulous pace. By the time he thrust slowly into her, her body had adapted to his pace, his needs and they climaxed together. Although she had certainly had lovers more practiced, she had never before been with a man who brought such honest emotion to her bed.

“Vala?”

She’d thought he was asleep. She propped herself up his chest. “Daniel?” He stroked her hair back with those wonderful hands. She didn’t think she could ever look at them again and not want them on her body.

“Next time, let’s try it your way.”
