There was something about Earth’s sweets that intrigued Vala. So many shapes, colors, and textures. From little chocolate covered seeds to large pieces of ‘jawbreaker’ that seemed to last forever. Daniel said her infatuation with candy was like a little kid. Clearly he didn’t know all the things she thought of when she saw pixie sticks and gummy worms.
Daniel had been dragged into the candy shop by Vala, who seemed to get hungry when shopping. It was bad enough that they had ended up at the jewelry store instead of shopping for ‘essentials.’ Though he rolled his eyes at every smirk Vala made, it was okay because he knew she didn’t get off the base much. Actually she was pretty cute amidst the pink and blue of the store. He’d never tell her that though.
Vala had picked out a rather large, lengthy lollipop which had Daniel blushing a tad. After paying for the sugar and corn syrup treat, they ventured back into the crowded mall. Unwrapping her candy, Vala got more than a few stares when she started to eat it. Being Vala, she couldn’t just simply lick it or bite it. The way she was sucking on that striped candy made Daniel noticeably uncomfortable. It was made even more striking by her pigtails and pink Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt.
“Vala? Why don’t you wait till we get ‘home’ to finish that?” Daniel asked, trying not to give away that he thought he might want to see her keep going.
“Making you a little distracted, darling?” Vala countered before taking a long swipe of the lollipop with her slightly candy colored tongue.
“Uh, no. I just think you’ve caused enough guys to get hit
by their girlfriends today,” Daniel told her, trying to keep his eyes on
something other than Vala’s mouth. Going past the sign for
“Maybe it was about time they got a smack. Did you ever think it wasn’t just me? Maybe they’d been looking at beautiful women all day,” Vala informed Daniel of his, in her opinion, misjudgment. Daniel was a little speechless.
“Well, um…I guess, but I think you’ve still gotten a little more attention than usual,” Daniel commented.
“From you?” Vala asked, half jokingly.
“Huh? No. No! I’m not giving you any more attention than usual,” Daniel stammered.
“Aren’t you the defensive one? Say whatever you want but I’ve noticed those looks you’ve been giving me. Even if you don’t admit it, I know what you’re thinking,” Vala said before putting her lollipop back in one of her bags. After actually being serious for a moment, she got sidetracked again, moving ahead to a display of leather, high heeled boots.
Daniel smirked to himself. He’d been caught. Being around Vala was like eating rock candy; every time you got a bit of the string. They always had a good time, even if they were arguing. But it was inevitable that Daniel slip a little and Vala catch him. One day, he knew, Vala would get him to slip up big and admit his feelings for her. Today though, it was all flirting and banter and yes, shopping.
