AUTHOR’S NOTES: I must have written this right after seeing Travelers when I couldn’t get over the Prometheus Unbound parallels. It will probably only make sense if you’ve seen both episodes.

"Hey, did you guys get a chance to go through Sam's e-mails from the data
burst yet?"
Vala looked up from her scrambled eggs which turned out on closer inspection to
be Daniel's scrambled eggs, Daniel's plate having been replaced with Vala's
half-eaten French toast. (Cameron only knew this because he knew that Vala was
the only person on the base that smeared Jello on her French toast. It scared
him sometimes how much he knew about these people.)
"No, why?"
Cameron dropped the printed copy of Sam's e-mail attachment onto the commissary
table and sat down.
"It is indeed entertaining reading," Teal'c said and sat down, as
Vala reached across to pick it up.
Daniel finally looked up from his book. "Huh? What's entertaining
reading?"
Vala rolled her eyes. Daniel looked at her, looked at the paper, looked at
their plates and switched them back with a glare. Vala smiled at him and
knocked his hand away when Daniel tried to reach for the incident report.
"I had it first," Vala said.
"I read faster than you."
"Eat your breakfast."
"You ate it for me."
"Eat my breakfast then."
Daniel sighed and started eating Vala's French toast. Cameron glanced at Teal'c
who was watching them with a bemused fondness. Moments like this, Cameron
remembered that Teal'c had spent more time with SG1 than SG1 had spent with
themselves which was...not something he liked to think about much.
Vala snorted and passed the report over to Daniel. "I did it with more
style."
Daniel skimmed the report, eyes growing wide at first and then narrowing as his
forehead furrowed. He was almost smiling when he finally set it down which for
Vala gave him a sarcastic smile. "Well clearly she got lucky and Sheppard
turned out to be an idiot."
"Maybe she's just better than you," Daniel said.
Vala narrowed her eyes but said nothing. Daniel just stared back at her calmly,
even when Vala gave him a huge grin that would have sent a sane man running for
the hills. Or at least donning an athletic cup for a few weeks. Cameron had
never seen two people engage in a longer or more bizarre courtship ritual.
"I might not have gotten away the ship," Vala said finally, "but
there were other compensations."
It took Cameron a minute to figure out what she meant. "Worth it?"
Vala looked around at each of them in turn before knocking the plate of half
eaten French toast onto Daniel's lap. Over Daniel's squawk of indignation, he
heard her say, "Yeah, it was."
