Vala walks into the commisary and sits at the fifth chair,
the one next to Daniel and kept by the pile of files he moves with a nod.
"This, you should know, is deeply unnecessary."
There's no reply. Vala looks up from the bag she's sat down with a quirk of a
smile at the left of her mouth. Five sets of wide, too-innocent eyes meet her
own in turn. She doesn't believe that look. She invented that look.
"I appreciate the jello."
"How was his afternoon?"
So this is where Daniel gets it from, his way of not asking a question he's not
sure about unless he can circle around it ten times first: Jack.
Vala swallows the mouthful of jello she's on and speaks in a tone.
"Interesting."
Daniel ducks his head and raises it again quickly.
"He has very clear memories of Quetesh and Baal's time together,
particularly-"
Cam looks panicked, Sam's coffee cup is paused in mid air, Daniel's eyebrows
have moved very slightly closer
together and Jack's raised one of his. Teal'c continues to eat his sandwich.
"Well, you get the points today, Muscles." Vala pushes a small pot of
yoghurt to him. It is, she notices, chocolate flavoured. Clearly, the plan had
been to stock her jam-packed with additives and chemicals that had no business
being in food or tasting so very satisfying. She can go along with that.
Jack mutters something under his breath and sends her a crooked smile before
turning back to a large, sharply creased piece of paper. Seeing it from the
wrong side, Vala can only see lots of thin blue lines. New plane specs; it can
only be that for Cameron, Sam and Jack to be huddled around it, talking
excitedly.
Teal'c takes his plate back to the servers.
Vala jabs a finger at the report Daniel's reading. He narrows his eyes at her
fingernail. "What is it?"
While Daniel's explaining negative traces and Vala's half-listening, Teal'c
sits a small glass of water in front of her and sits back at the table.
Vala looks at the water and then at Teal'c, who nods. She purses her lips and
he raises an eyebrow. She drinks half the glass to prove she's obeying, then
drinks the other half when she realises she's thirsty.
"You're not listening, are you?"
"Not really, no," Vala rolls out her neck and leans her chin on one
bent elbow with a slow smile.
Daniel returns her smile, shakes his head, and keeps talking, this time
pointing the majority of his gestures to Teal'c.
