He hopes his eyes aren't as wide as hers are right now. Pale grey stares back at him. He feels like she's looking straight through him. Wonder, amazement, shock, take your pick. The shape of her mouth pretty much sums up their situation, somewhere between a pout and ‘oh’ they form a perfect circle…one Daniel has spent a good half a minute staring at.

How did he get here again? Oh yeah, she’d been fiddling with his glasses again, trying them on (they did look kinda cute on her, especially when they slid down her nose) and cleaning them on her shirt…it’s just that he had needed them for translating the tablet currently lying ignored on his desk, the one that may or may not be the key to all existence, yadda yadda, yadda…Even after chasing her around his lab, which was childish, even for her, he’d cornered her, looming over her and trying to look somewhat menacing, which truthfully, he knew would never work if that grin was anything to go by.

His glasses were hidden from view as she’d held them at the small of her back, bending backward so as to put as much space between him and the eyewear. So, without thinking, he’d leaned forward and kissed her. Just a quick peck on the lips to distract her and snag his glasses back, but the intensity with which she held his sight when he pulled away startled him. And so there he was…

“No” she whispered, tongue peeking out to lick her bottom lip.

“No?” Daniel was puzzled, what was she saying no to?

“Don’t Daniel, just don’t” Vala’s voice was stronger as she began to inch away, extradite herself from the corner they were huddled in.

“Don’t what? You can’t be serious” Daniel was at odds, “You flounce around here with your overtly sexual overtures, you flirt with anything that has a pulse but when I, when I do the same thing, just once…”

“Just forget it Daniel” She tried to squeeze past him, but Daniel held her arm.

“What? What’s wrong Vala?” He knew something wasn’t right now. She wasn’t normally this secretive “tell me.” She stopped struggling then, turning to once again look him in the eye.

“Since I…since I came back…I never touched you, without meaning it.” With that she shoved his arm, once again trying to pull away, and he let her, still a little shocked at her words. Vala was almost to the door of his lab when he hissed, “What if I meant it?”

“What?”

“What if I meant it?” he repeated, raising his eyes to meet hers.

“Oh that’s rich Dan…”

“No. It isn’t.”

Vala face was a mix of confusion and hope. He took a few tentative steps toward her.

“What are you saying?” She was guarded, not that Daniel really blamed her now he knew.

“I think, I mean…I meant it, I mean it.”

Vala just stood there, blank. Whether she took it as a slap in the face, or as a gift, something wonderful, he couldn’t tell. Maybe she was still a little shocked. Closing the gap between them, Daniel slowly reached out, hand skimming atop her shoulders, brushing wayward locks aside as his fingers trailed down her spine, resting lightly on hips. This close he could feel her shallow breaths on his face. It was up to her to make a move. Slowly, her fingers came to rest on his cheek, caressing the soft skin there before trailing lightly over his lips. Vala looked up at him then, just before touching his lips to her own. “I mean it too.”
