Vala loved the rain. It was her sanctuary, a place where everything could be washed away and a rebirthing could begin. The rain, sometimes cold, harsh, and other times it was warm and sweet. Vala loved the rain.

Walking outside, the fresh rain impacted her skin, as she leaned her head back, opened her mouth and let the rain fall into her mouth. Opening her eyes she twirled around as the water drops slowly soaked her body. She didn’t care. Soaking herself in the rain as it washed all her thoughts away. Washed away the pain, the disappointments, the thoughts, everything that was troubling her. The rain would take it all away. Her twirling stopped and she looked around, the summer rain, warm and sweet and the puddles around her called her to come. Running in her bare feet across the pavement, Vala jumped into one of the puddles, soaking her legs but allowed the cool water to drop freely from them.

A single raindrop dripped from her black locks and slid down her forehead. Smiling to herself, she laid herself back on the grass and closed her eyes, letting the rain wash everything away. The rain hit her face, her neck, her hair, her chest, her entire body, and her soul.

Vala was so engrossed in thought as she lay in the rain, she didn’t notice the body of her lover lay next to her. The two laid in silence until the rain stopped and she opened her eyes, to notice him. Soaked to the bone, his brilliant blue eyes shinning, a soft smile on his lips. Brown hair with a speckle or two of grey stuck to his head, as he reached an arm over, pulling her onto his body. Both bodies wet from the rain smiled.

"I didn’t know you liked the rain so much," he whispered.

"It changes everything," Vala replied softly, as the two sat up, and she wrapped her legs around his torso. "Makes everything new."

"Just what we needed," Daniel smiled before he leaned over and brushed his lips to Vala’s in a soft caress of a kiss.

"It’s in the rain," Vala whispered before she looked up to the sky and saw the rainbow. "And the beauty that comes after it."
