Red, it was Vala’s new favorite color. It was the color of heat and passion. The shade Daniel’s cheeks turned when she got close to him. The best jell-o was always a crimson tone. In the middle of February the tablecloths in the SGC commissary were always red. That’s where Vala was sitting when Daniel joined her.
He set down a long thin box with a scarlet bow in front of her. Vala smiled, squealed, and opened the box. Inside sat a pendant made of gold and round maroon gemstones. They were positioned in gradual order, smallest to largest, resembling a sort of pendulum. She pulled the piece of jewelry out of the case and held it up to her neck.
“Oh, Daniel, how does it look?”
“It’s beautiful, fits you perfectly,” Daniel smiled as he got up from his seat and stepped behind her. After securing the tiny clasp, he leaned down and softly kissed her neck. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
